A Love Story of 73 Years: Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

The 75th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s marriage just passed recently.

Before the meeting with Philip

Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926. Lilibeth was another name for the little girl. She received a liberal education at home (as befits princesses at the time), taught herself French. She loved to ride horses. According to the rules, his uncle was supposed to become the king. However, the latter abdicated for personal reasons. As a result, George VI, Elizabeth’s father, became the king of England.

Prince Philip before meeting the Queen

Philip was born on June 10, 1921. His granddad, Lord George I of Greece, was killed in 1913, his dad chose to move to Paris.  After some time, Philip’s parents separated. And his father led a disorderly life. The prince’s mother could not stand these difficulties and went mad; she was taken to a psychiatric hospital. The father took his son and sent him to school. Although he was so busy with his personal life that he forgot about the existence of children. Years later, Philip traveled alone to England to visit his relatives. Here he saw the only lover of his life.

The first meeting of Elizabeth and Philip was in 1934. The princess found Philip very attractive. Once, Elizabeth with her family arrived at Military College, where the Prince was serving. The latter showed them the college. After that, he could not stop thinking about the princess. But her parents did not consider Philip a good candidate for their daughter. When his majesty went to war, he was in correspondence with Elizabeth. The princess could not imagine anyone else as her husband.

When the war ended and Philip came back, the princess’s parents realized that there was no point in arguing with her. To this day, it is not known how the prince proposed to her. There are several versions, according to one of which, the prince made a proposal through a letter. They got engaged in July 1974, and they married on November 20. Philip became Duke of Edinburgh the day before the wedding. Among his relatives, only his mother was present despite the serious psychic problems.

Their life was harmonious and happy. They had always overcome life’s difficulties together.

On April 9, 2021 Philip draw his last breath.
