Once upon a time, a man came home and saw a nest made by a mother squirrel with two baby kittens inside. He realized that the babies needed help, so he called a couple who knew a lot about rescuing and taking care of wildlife, Christina and Michael.

They wanted to reunite the babies with their mother, but it seemed like the mother didn’t want to take care of them anymore. Her original nest had been destroyed because of nearby construction, and she stopped coming to see her babies.

Sadly, one of the babies died soon after. So Christina and Michael took the other baby to a vet, who thought that the baby might not survive either.

They made the difficult decision to take care of the struggling baby themselves. They named her Thumbelina, and her case was special. She was born at an unusual time, and losing her sister meant she couldn’t learn from other squirrels like she should have.

Despite all the challenges, Thumbelina managed to survive. She grew slowly and had some health problems.

She didn’t want to be around other squirrels and got stressed when she was near them. Thumbelina wasn’t ready to live in the wild because she couldn’t climb or jump well and had trouble holding onto branches.

She also had hormonal imbalances that caused a lot of pain, so she had an operation to remove her reproductive organs.

After the surgery, Thumbelina went back to her playful self. She still has some hormone issues, but she’s doing well.

She spends her days playing and cuddling with her mom and dad.

We hope that Thumbelina can teach people the importance of loving and caring for nature.
